Dream Theater have launched the North American leg of their 40th anniversary tour.
The trek kicked off on Friday (February 7th) at the Metropolitan Opera House in Philadelphia and marked Dream Theater’s first US gig with drummer Mike Portnoy in nearly 15 years.

Similar to the shows DT performed on the previous UK/European leg of the 40th anniversary tour, the setlist of 18 songs spanned the band’s career, mixing classics and fan favorites, such as “Pull Me Under,” with a couple new songs from the recently released Parasomnia.
Among the highlights was the live debut of “Midnight Messiah” — featuring Portnoy’s first lyrical contributions since his original stint in the band — and the first performance of “The Dark Eternal Night” since 2017. The most represented albums included Metropolis, Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory (four songs) and Images and Words (three songs). The other Parasomnia inclusion was the single “Night Terror.”
The tour continues Monday (February 10th) in Nashville, Tennessee, and runs through most of March. You can get tickets here.
