CANNABIS CORPSE Have Called It Quits

The cannabis-centred death metal three piece, Cannabis Corpse, released a statement to social media, announcing that they would be disbanding this past Thursday (16th October). The band has been around for almost 20 years, poking fun at other metal bands by creating satirical versions of other bands’ album and song titles, while still creating original music.

The statement posted to Facebook simply read that: “Cannabis Corpse has officially disbanded. Thanks to those of you who came out supported. 2006 – 2025.” The caption included, “2006 – 2025. Keep smoking friends. Goodbye.”

Some fans in the comments were thankful it wasn’t Cannibal Corpse (the obvious inspiration for Cannabis Corpse‘s name) – and that they had to do a double-take when the saw the headline. However, there were a notable amount of people in the comments, thanking the band for their time and reminiscing on memories at the band’s shows.

Formed in Richmond, Virginia in 2006, Phil Hall (Iron Reagan, Municipal Waste) and Josh Hall, the final line-up for the group were the brothers, alongside Adam Guilliams. The trio saw a slew of lineup changes over their near 20-year run with the majority dropping out in the early 2010s, however, the band pursued and released six albums and two EPs.

The cannabis puns were rather endless with Cannabis Corpse, with album titles Blunted At Birth, Beneath Grow Lights Thou Shalt Rise, and Nug So Vile and a compilation named, Choice Nugs. The band offered a place of refuge for those who do enjoy a wee bit of weed every now and alongside their dark metal – as well as a good pun or two.

But Cannabis Corpse wasn’t wasn’t just a gimmick. Six Feet Under‘s Chris Barnes enlisted Cannabis Corpse as his studio band for Six Feet Under‘s 2015 record; with Josh Hall drumming, Phil Hall playing rhythm, and their other bandmate at the time, Brandon Ellis playing lead, as well as Ray Suhy assisting with guitar before his eventual invitation to join Cannabis Corpse afterwards.

All the best to the Hall brothers and Guilliams in the future.

Spark one in their honour tonight.
