This Is Probably The Lowest Mile V10 BMW M5 In America

Those willing to put up with the potential issues that could be lurking in this car could reap some great benefits

This Is Probably The Lowest Mile V10 BMW M5 In America

  • E60 BMW M5 listed on Cars & Bids with just 3,300 miles and a clean Florida title.
  • Powered by a 500-hp S85 V10 and a 7-speed SMG transmission, fully unmodified.
  • Collectible condition, but known for rod bearing wear and SMG clutch/pump issues.

If you’ve been holding out for a truly pristine example of BMW’s last naturally aspirated super-sedan and the only M5 to ever leverage a V10, this might be as close to new as they come. Listed for auction with a current high bid of $30,250, this Alpine White saloon has just 3,300 miles on the odometer, is unmodified, and has a clean Florida title.

If that weren’t enough to make it interesting, it remained in the possession of the original owner until earlier this year. This is basically a single-owner time capsule of one of BMW’s most thrilling and temperamental creations.

A Different BMW Styling Era

Before the days of giant kidney grilles and flamboyant styling, what you see here was considered too brash by some. Little did everyone know at the time just how special this car would be decades later. Under the hood, the NA V10 revs to 8,250 RPM and makes 500 horsepower (373 kW) and 383 lb-ft (519 Nm) of torque along the way. It sends that to the rear wheels via a seven-speed SMG automated manual gearbox.

Factory equipment on this example includes 19-inch 166M wheels, Merino leather, heated seats in both rows, and a heads-up display. The seller even includes the original tires, two keys, and the original manuals. Since posting the car, they’ve also uploaded a Monroney Label, indicating an MSRP of $87,905.

Beauty With Caveats

While this is no doubt a collector’s car, potential buyers should beware. Sitting with almost no use over the course of 20 years is never good for any car, and the seals and gaskets might be problematic. In addition, the rod bearings and the automated manual gearbox are known issues for these cars.

In the case of the bearings, good maintenance can negate much of the risk if you plan on driving it, but the way the gearbox functions essentially guarantees issues over time. That said, no car will run forever without problems. If you’re going to have to maintain something, why not make it something as beautiful, fast, and powerful as this E60 M5?

Still, if your idea of fun is tempting fate with Bavarian engineering wrapped in a four-door rocket, this might be your shot. Check out the listing here before time runs out.
