Chevy’s Cheapest Pickup Just Got Better But It’s Still Off Limits Here

  • Chevy’s 2026 Montana gains an 8-inch cluster and an 11-inch infotainment display inside.
  • Optional features include ambient lighting, bike rack, trailer hitch, and more accessories.
  • The 1.2-liter Turbo Flex engine gets more power and slightly improved fuel economy.

Chevy continues to build momentum in South America with a steady stream of updates and new models. Following recent refreshes for the Onix hatchback, Onix Plus sedan, and Tracker crossover, not to mention the addition of the China-sourced Spark EUV and Captiva EV, there’s now a lightly updated version of the Montana pickup joining the lineup.

The Montana was originally introduced in 2023, so Chevy didn’t feel the need to change its looks, even though the mechanically related Tracker has just received a sharper nose. For 2026, exterior changes are limited to new 17-inch alloy wheels for the Premier and RS trims, along with a new Scarlet Red paint option.

The entry-level MT trim also receives a small upgrade, now featuring body-colored mirrors and door handles as standard. The pickup retains its compact footprint, at 4,717 mm (185.7 inches) long.

Updated Tech Inside

Changes are more evident inside, as the Montana adopts the latest digital cockpit setup shared with the Onix and Tracker, bringing in an 8-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11-inch central infotainment display. This updated layout comes standard on all trims except the base MT, which sticks with analog gauges and an 8-inch touchscreen.

Chevy has also added a few new optional features, like ambient lighting, floor mats with raised edges, puddle lights, a premium sound system, a bike rack, and a rear hitch. The latter allows the Montana to tow trailers weighing up to 400 kg (882 pounds). Furthermore, the Multi-Flex bed with a capacity of 874 lt (31 cubic feet) is compatible with over 20 accessories, including cargo dividers, tie-down hooks, dual-side lighting, and a tonneau cover.

Standard equipment for the 2026 MY includes six airbags, auto headlights, collision warning, a rear window defroster, a cargo bed protector, dual bed lightning, A/C, and Wi-Fi.

Furthermore, GM’s OnStar system now comes with Safe Tracking, which lets an attendant temporarily monitor the vehicle’s route and, if needed, listen in on the cabin audio to assist authorities in case of an emergency. Higher-spec trims offer extras like full LED headlights, keyless entry, wireless charging, a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, and more.

Three-Cylinder Power

Beneath the bodywork, the Montana shares its unibody platform with the Tracker and benefits from fine-tuned suspension. Power still comes from a 1.2-liter Turbo Flex three-cylinder engine, now slightly upgraded to produce 139 hp (104 kW / 141 PS), up from 131 hp (98 kW / 133 PS). It also delivers a 4% improvement in fuel efficiency.

Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, with power going exclusively to the front wheels, as no all-wheel-drive option is offered.

How Much Does it Cost?

In Brazil, the 2026 Chevrolet Montana is now available to order, with prices ranging from R$ 141,790 (about $25,400) to R$ 177,290 (around $31,700), depending on the trim. Built locally, the truck is also exported to Argentina and Uruguay. GM expects the pickup segment in Brazil to top 500,000 annual sales for the first time this year.
