For generations, the Murdaugh family was a legal powerhouse that ruled South Carolina’s Hampton County. Problems began mounting, publicly at least, for the Murdaughs in 2019, after an allegedly intoxicated 19-year old Paul, the youngest son, crashed his family’s boat into a bridge on Archers Creek. The accident resulted in the injuries of multiple passengers and the death of 19-year-old Mallory Beach. From there, the Murdaugh family’s fall from grace was littered with corruption, crime, tragedy and death, and ultimately culminated in the double homicide of Paul and the Murdaugh matriarch, Maggie. Mandy Matney is a South Carolina based journalist whose reporting broke story after story on the Murdaugh scandal. Matney, who serves as executive producer of “Murdaugh: Death in the Family,” joins “Forbes True Crime” to discuss the new, fictionalized series based on the undoing of the Lowcountry dynasty.
